Extension shutting down

Hello! There was an announcement from SteamGifts about banning users of this specific extension[www.steamgifts.com] starting June 1st.

I don't want to be a nuisance, so the extension will be unpublished before that date.

As I understand it, simply unpublishing a Chrome extension doesn't automatically remove it from every user, so the plan is:

Make an update that strips all autojoin functionality (previously it was disabled by default, but could be enabled after agreeing to the warnings). I know, the name doesn't make any sense now.
Remove notification functionality as it requires the extension to make periodic requests to SteamGifts, just in case it triggers some detection.
Unpublish the extension after a few days.

Truth be told, I haven't been actively developing it for many years now, only small fixes once in a while if something got changed on the website and I was notified that it doesn't work anymore. The biggest update was porting it from manifest v2 to manifest v3[developer.chrome.com], which wasn't smooth, as it turned out Firefox doesn't support all the MV3 stuff that was used. Multiple versions had to be updated and while it wasn't a ton of work, it was messy. And it stopped being fun either, since I stopped actively using the website myself and don't profit from the extension in any way (over the years I had a few propositions of integrating adverts and a lot of emails about outright buying it, all of which were successfully ignored).

Thanks for using the extension, I'm glad it was useful for some people!

Just published an update that turns off these settings:

AutoJoin in background.
AutoJoin if page is opened every X hours.

Right now it's not clear what is a criteria of getting a suspension. I advise you to stop using AutoJoin button and keeping those options off (although they're still available in settings).

Maybe using moderate settings you'll be fine, like checking only your wishlist and only every 10 hours? I don't know. And if you want to try it - you'll be at fault of your suspension.

Hope you still find this extension useful.

The last few weeks I've been logging and reviewing data. On average, a user with scripts enters 4x as many giveaways as a user without scripts. I believe this happens because users currently receive a high number of points, and scripts are able to use those points more efficiently. To fix this issue I want to lower point distribution to a more reasonable amount. This will allow users casually visiting the site a couple of times a day to use all of their points, and therefore reduce the need and advantage of using such scripts.
Secondly, starting October, I am going to start assigning suspensions to users that are using these scripts. I feel they do not benefit the community in any way, and I want to try to ensure SteamGifts stays a fun and social place for everyone to visit. Of course, that only happens when real people are interacting with the site.

So, what do you guys think? Right now I'm thinking of publishing an update that disables background autojoin for everyone. I'll keep an option to enable it back but you'll risk getting a suspension.
