First time playing it was recently when it was on sale. I dunno, I liked it!
It's absolutely different from the originals, and I imagine that is why people would be turned off of it,
but once you get into it, it's a bit addicting. Biotic gameplay is hella fun.

MAYBE not worth $40, but if you can get it on sale, and you enjoyed the trilogy it's worth a shot!

I'm going to preface this review by saying that I never played any of the ME games when they originally came out,
so this was my first experience into the series.

Fresh off Veilguard (which I enjoyed), and with the game on sale for $5, I figured "why not". I wanted to see why all the Grifters complained about wanting old bioware back.
And I can say, without fail, this trilogy moved me. I can't even begin to fathom how people felt at the time watching this ♥♥♥♥ unfold. It's (kinda) like an interactable star wars.
Extremely memorable characters, choices that mostly matter (and carry over), amazing DLC....
This game is the whole package. I don't know if it's necessarily worth $60, but man it was absolutely worth the $5 I spent on it!
Personally, I still think mass Effect 2 is my favorite overall. What really suprised me was how much I enjoyed 3. I specifically remember there being plenty discourse over 3, and while I do think it fumbles in some areas, it is still on many levels an upgrade from 2....
Even with the Legendary Edition changes, Mass Effect 1 is still... not great. The story is awesome, but Time has not been kind to the old beast. Navigation and controls are a mess. UI is awful. Just a real old game.

Overall, i'm so incredibly glad that I spent so much time on this trilogy, and it does make me hopeful for whatever the future holds for the IP.

BUY THE FUN FISHING GAME! BUY IT! FISH WITH FRIENDS OR STRANGERS!
