THE INITIAL LORE

The Quiet Years

Years have passed since the fall of the C-Consciousness and the events deep within the center of the Zone. The Brain Scorcher fell silent, the hidden laboratories were abandoned, and the old psi-network that once twisted the Zone into constant chaos collapsed alongside the Monolith's control.

Many believed the Zone would finally die.

Instead, it changed.

The devastating blowouts and psi-storms that once ravaged the land became increasingly rare. Scientists believe the destruction of the old psi infrastructure disrupted the unstable forces responsible for the emissions. The Zone no longer erupts in violent outbursts as often as before. Now it grows silent, storing its energy within anomalies, underground sectors, and places untouched by man for years.

But the years of disaster came at a terrible cost.

Most stalkers are dead.

The rookie boom that once flooded the Zone disappeared almost entirely. Thousands were lost to emissions, mutants, faction wars, and failed expeditions into the north. Smuggling routes collapsed, safe paths vanished, and experienced guides became harder to find with every passing year. Few still choose to cross the perimeter, but some desperate souls continue to arrive, drawn by greed, curiosity, or the false hope that the Zone still has something left to offer.

Those who survived became cautious.

The old days of blind faction wars are fading. Duty and Freedom still stand divided by ideology, but endless bloodshed nearly wiped them both out. Ammunition is scarce, supplies are limited, and veteran stalkers are irreplaceable. Weapons are lowered more often than they are raised. Questions are asked before shots are fired. Temporary cooperation between enemies has become an uncomfortable necessity for survival.

The Military presence inside the Zone has also weakened significantly. Outposts were abandoned, patrols became rare, and entire operations quietly disappeared after catastrophic losses. Encounters with soldiers inside the Zone are uncommon now, but many stalkers believe the government has not abandoned the Zone at all. Rumors speak of secret preparations beyond the perimeter and of new operations being planned in silence.

Stranger rumors travel through campfires as well.

Stalkers whisper about sightings of heavily mutated men wearing strange insignias nobody recognizes. Survivors claim these figures move through anomaly fields untouched, appearing and disappearing without warning. They are called the Sinners by those who have encountered them, though nobody truly knows what they are. Some believe they are failed experiments from forgotten laboratories. Others claim they are stalkers who ventured too deep into the Zone and returned changed into something no longer human.

Another name has also begun spreading across the Zone.

UNISIG.

Nobody knows exactly who they are or where they came from. Some say they are a western scientific organization operating beyond government oversight. Others believe they are private military contractors sent to secure artifacts and classified research hidden within the Zone. Their operatives are heavily equipped, disciplined, and rarely speak to outsiders. Unlike ordinary mercenaries, they appear less interested in money and more focused on recovering information, technology, and samples from the deepest parts of the Zone.

Their sudden appearance has unsettled everyone.

Even the Ecologists avoid discussing them openly.

And somewhere in the north, the Monolith still survives.

Though their connection to the Monolith was severed long ago, the damage done to their minds never healed. Their forces are shattered and scattered, yet the survivors continue their endless crusade with blind devotion. Some guard abandoned territory without purpose. Others believe the silence is merely a test from the Monolith itself. They are fewer now, but no less dangerous.

There are also rumors that members of Clear Sky still wander the Zone. Lone figures wearing faded blue camouflage have been seen observing anomalies, abandoned labs, and emission zones before vanishing once more into the wasteland. Nobody knows how many survived the disaster at the CNPP, nor what they are searching for in the changing Zone.

The Zone has grown quieter.

But beneath the silence, something is changing.
