Mod Update Summary, FF Pixel Remaster, Official Discord and More!

Hello everyone!

New(ish) Discord Server

In the anticipation of the upcoming release of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, there are several things that we would like to share with everyone in this community.

First, we would like to formally announce and invite everyone to join our discord group: VG Research and Modding: https://discord.gg/bSnpVBV.

This discord group has been the hub of updates and new mod releases for the past couple of years now with many not having been released in this group. We found it was much easier to collaborate directly on discord rather than using these forums, but we invite you to use both!

Krysan Thyme could use your help!

Starting things off with a serious note, Krisan Thyme the founder of this group, the original owner of the VG Research and Modding discord server, and a reverse engineer of many of your favorite games, including Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, and more, could really use your help right now!

If anyone has the time, please read what he's going through and if you can pitch in, please do so: https://www.gofundme(.)com/f/help-chris-combat-years-of-abuse--health-problems. (remove () from the URL).

I pitched in as well after reading his battle through life and am sure many of you will want to as well.

FINAL FANTASY V Updates

Now, with the announcement of the Final fantasy Pixel Remaster series comes the sad news that FINAL FANTASY V (Old Ver) and FINAL FANTASY VI (Old Ver) are both going to be delisted and will no longer be available for purchase on Steam. It is a bit of a sad situation, but fret not, as the modding community still has something to offer everyone that have these games in their libraries.

Be sure to pick these games up before they are gone forever!

FINAL FANTASY V has the following new mods (and more to come)

Name

Type

Opera Omnia portraits

Graphical

Original Portraits that fits in text Window

Graphical

Orchestral Soundtrack for FFV

Audio

FFV Steam GBA Music Mod

Audio

Omniscaler

General

Font Mod

Graphical

FFV White border Fix

Graphical

Complete Sprite Collection (PSP Style - WIP)

Graphical

Credits to: KAMO, HawkX, Payotcraft, Enfyve, Oscar92player, MtfujiInMyPants

Many of the mods you see above will be available soon in the Omega Weapon mod installer. We hope to release this prior to the Pixel Remaster version. Stay tuned!

FINAL FANTASY VI Updates

FINAL FANTASY VI has received so much from the community. As a long overdue formal announcement in this group, Project Atma Weapon is the definitive mod installer/manager for FFVI which was originally released a couple of years ago. Project Atma Weapon features 3 main presets for mods in the game:, Remaster, A World Reborn, and Classic that you can install; as well as letting you fully customize the installation with more than 75 mods. You can manually select in-game portraits, fonts, orchestral soundtracks, world map textures, monster textures, summon sprites, and an overhauled game UI which conveys a classic look of the game, and more.

Here is the trailer we released for the last version (credits to KVG198x): <a class="bb_link" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMvv0Yimc_M" Enfyve, Taser9001, FuZzle, faospark, Spyros, Madsiur, granvillimus

With the help of the newly updated FLB tool (forked by Enfyve) make sure to check out the latest versions of the UI graphical overhaul and SaneUI as both mods now feature better/optimized placements of UI elements.

There are also plans to update Atma Weapon again before the Pixel Remaster version is released which will include most of the mods featured in the table above. Stay tuned here as well!

FINAL FANTASY Pixel Remaster

As sad as it to see the Final Fantasy Anthology Duo be delisted and be relegated with the (OLD Ver) moniker … one might notice that they still have received plenty of mods from the community and continue to do so. When the world said they were horrible/bad, there were still people that gave love and respect to both games regardless of these criticisms. There is just a couple of weeks to go before Chaos wins in the world in regards to the original Steam versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI. We hope you give them some attention with the mods listed above.

The clock ticks down for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series and be assured that if there is a possibility to mod the games, we will conquer these new games as well! We invite you to participate in the discord server while we explore these new games!

Chrono Trigger Updates

And at last, but not least, the Chrono Trigger version for Steam has also received a good amount of mods. We are sure you'll love these additions, since they give you a much better gaming experience while playing the game. Some of them were made for the first version of the game, previous to the official updates that came later which fixed many aspects of the game. However, most were updated to work with the current/latest version. While others are still in need of some testing. We would appreciate any participation to debug them and make them completely available and compatible.

This is the current list of mods for Chrono Trigger:

Name

Type

CT_Explore

File Exploration / Replacement / Patching Tool

Sounds of Ivalice

Audio Replacement Tool

Zeal Debug Warp Access

Gameplay / Testing

Mads' Blake Robinson Orchestral OST

Audio

Enfyve's Font Decryption Tool

Graphical UI / Font Replacement Tool

Chrono Font

Graphical UI / Font Replacement

Overworld UI Buttons Removal (for Upd. 2)*

Graphical UI

No ATB & HP Bars for Default UI *

Graphical UI

Blue UI Mod (ver. 5)*

Graphical UI

Medium Gray UI *

Graphical UI

Lavos BGM Fix for Ochestral Mod

Audio

Chrono Trigger -ReWork- (Multi-language)

Graphical UI / Font Replacement

Character Battle Portraits

Graphical UI

PlayStation Buttom Prompts (Updated)

Graphical UI

*These may not work on the newest version of the game.

Come Join us!

VG Research & Modding: https://discord.gg/bSnpVBV.

We would really appreciate your collaboration, and we openly invite you to our Discord server so you can share with us the love for these classical jRPGs (and more), your experience in the modding community, and of course, your desire to work with us to expand them as much as possible.

Also for those wanting to mod the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, please join Krisan Thyme's server "Fabula Nova Chystallis" which is dedicated to those games: https://discord.gg/pc9PdpKsRc

Thank you and happy modding!
Nova Chrysalia has been released!

For those that may be interested in modding the XIII series (either using them, or making them) I am officially releasing a new program that I think might help simplify a lot of things for everyone involved.

The program is called Nova Chrysalia, and it is meant to be a modding suite with tools to handle the converting\unpacking\decrypting of various file formats. It also comes equipped with a built-in mod manager. (Think something roughly along the lines of what TES games have.) You can even pack your mods up into a single file and share them with others, where they can then add it to the mod manager's list with a click of a button! They can then install\uninstall as desired, or delete the mod entirely. (All without permanently altering the game files.)

Additional functionality includes being able to unpack all game files with a single click of a button and have all three games read from the extracted files instead of from the packed IMG containers. This makes modding and testing way easier, allowing a modder to hot-swap files in realtime and allowing for a relatively clean and simple install process for the enduser.

There is more as well, including things like debug mode options and some engine-level fixes for the first two games. (Experimental, and will likely be expanded on in future updates!)

Overall it's meant to be something that replaces the launcher for all three games, handles mods, modding, and offers a little extra on the side. It's been a long time in coming but hopefully you guys find it useful, or at least kinda interesting.

Image Gallery[imgur.com]
Discord Server[discord.gg]

The program can be found on the Discord server linked above, under the announcements section. Hopefully if you're interested in modding the series, you'll stick around and help the community there get started. If not, that's cool too. The download will likely be made more publicly accessible at a later date for those uninterested in joining. For now, hope to see you there.

(Given that this is a first release, documentation is lacking. I'll be around on the server to answer any questions anyone might have. Feel free to inquire about anything you don't know about or might be curious about and me or someone else there will do their best!)

FFX/X-2 Japanese Voice Mod and Supersampling/DSR fix!

Just two hours after release, a mod is already out that allows you to play the game in any text language, but with the japanese audio. It even supports FMVs!

Check it out here:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/359870/discussions/0/364041517007201631/

Also, for those wanting DSR and Supersampling support. I'm happy to say that downscaling from 4K is a dream on this game. The only thing you have to do is enable the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" setting on the EXE's compatibility tab.

FFX.exe -> Right Click -> Compatibility tab -> Disable display scaling on high DPI settings

The same goes for FFX-2.exe and the FFX&X-2_Will.exe.

----

Be sure to thank Topher for his FFX/X-2 Japanese Voice mod!

Mod Notifications, Modding Tools, and General Poll!

Hello everyone! We have reached almost 1800 members already! Since a lot of people just joined and since the number of new members is starting to slow down, I figured now would be the best time to go over a few things. Please take a look at the topics below.

Mod Release Notifications
Every time a new mod is added to one of the Final Fantasy mod indexes, we will add an update to the "Mod Releases" thread in the subforum for the game. So in order to get notified when something is released, just subscribe to the pinned "Mod Releases" thread! Alternatively, in the General subforum, you can subscribe to the "Mod Releases" thread to get notified for ALL games.

Start Modding!
There are tools available to allow anyone to easily swap out the graphics from FFV and FFVI thanks to Krisan Thyme's and Nyxo's work. I suggest anyone to grab the Tools from the respective mod indexes, and start playing around with them. If you need any help, ask away! The forums have been split up for each game to help communication, so get involved and jump in. Also, for those testing mods, there are now pinned threads in the FFV and FFVI subforums for you to upload your save files to help those that are modding.

Projects to look out for, or get involved with!

Final Fantasy VI: The Respritening - Yoshitaka Amano Edition

Pluckylump is doing an amazing job revamping the FFVI sprites to look more like Yoshitaka Amano's work. What he's done so far is amazing!

FFV Fullscreen pixel analysis

Dangus ))<>(( Taargus is leading the effort in finally fixing the tileseam issue that plagues FFV. He could really use some help though, so if you can lend a hand, read through the thread and get involved! Let's finally get FFV to a polished state!

Community Manager Focus Poll
What do you want me to focus my efforts on, as your community manager? Please comment below, so I can gauge where there is more interest. Let me know what I should work on first!

FFVI Original Sprites Project

FFVII Mod Index based on the 7th Heaven Qhimm tutorial

FFVIII Mod Index

FFVI Sprite Modding tutorial

Let's grow this group!
If you know anyone interested in modding, or just want to let people know what amazing mods are available for their favorite Final Fantasy games, then invite them! The more people in the group, the more likely we'll see mods getting released!

>> Click here to see all of the mods released so far

-----------

Thanks for reading! Also, am I the only one excited to start modding FFIX?!

Modding Community Update: New Forums and Indexes!

Tonight I am proud to present some new changes here at the community, just in time for the new year! You can all thank our new team manager Saftle for most of these changes, he's gone above and beyond what I expected when he first offered to join, and I am thrilled with what he's cooked up for us all!

Without further adieu..

New Sub-Forums:
New sub-forums have been added to the community for all games currently available on steam! Now if you have a new release, an idea, or just want to chat in general about a particular FF title, you can! More forums will be added in the future as games are released on Steam. (FFIX is probably next!)

Community Indexes:
All modding indexes have been entirely redone, and now use a new format thanks to community moderator Saftle. You can find a link to each index stickied at the top of each games sub-forum, should one exist yet. Alternatively you will find a comprehensive index listing stickied at the top of General Discussion.

Moving Forward:
To keep in line with the above changes, we've moved the existing threads in general to their respective sub-forums, and are leaving General Discussion as a place for talking about no one game in particular. If a thread seems missing to you, it's probably been moved, or its contents merged into one of the new mod indexes.

More changes may yet be on the horizon, so keep on the look out! Have fun everyone, and happy modding!

FFXIII-2: MMP Update Poll

So I took the day off for Christmas, but I intend to get back to work very soon. Thus I'm curious what everyone would most like to see in the upcoming update to MMP. Since simply asking everyone won't likely cut it anymore with how much the community has grown, I've went ahead and made a poll asking you what you'd most like to see in the next update.

Now I have allowed multiple choices in this poll, so pick your favorites - but try not to abuse it by picking everything if you can help it..

http://strawpoll.me/6365399
