Items from video content about to become unmarketable?

Hi everyone!

I hope you've had an awesome start to the year so far!

Firstly, I need to apologise for the lack of updates! 2018 was a rough year for me as my father passed away and I was out of the country almost every other month to settle business matters.
However, things have finally settled down somewhat and I hopefully will be able to devote more time to managing this group this year.

Secondly, here's the reason for this post:

Valve is going to remove non-gaming videos from the Steam store soon. Read the announcement here.

What this means is that more items may soon become unmarketable. But we don't know for sure yet because:

1) we don't know exactly which videos will be removed;
2) even if some videos are removed, this doesn't necessarily mean that their associated items will become unmarketable, as I have explained before in this announcement.

However, it may make sense to complete your card sets and/or buy whatever emoji you want from the market now, just in case they become unmarketable after the removal.

Lastly, thought I'd clarify something:
When a game is removed from the Steam store, it does not automatically mean that its items also become non-marketable.

This is because a developer's game licensing relationship is entirely separate from his market sales relationship with Steam. They involve 2 different contracts.

Therefore it is perfectly feasible to see a removed game whose items are still selling on the Steam market.
(E.g. The game "Shakedown Racing One" which was removed from the Steam store more than 2 years ago, whose cards, backgrounds, etc are still saleable on the Steam market today: https://steamcommunity.com/market/search?appid=753&category_753_Game%5B%5D=tag_app_417730 )

Another game that was removed (because the developer ended his game licensing agreement with Steam), but whose items continued to be saleable (because the developer hadn't yet terminated his market relationship with Steam) for some time, until end-2017, was "Yelaxot".
Which is also why "Yelaxot" has just only appeared on our list even though the game was removed many months ago.

Hope that clears things up!

In light of this, be sure to always check if a game's items are still saleable. Just because the game has been removed from the store, doesn't mean its items have also become non-marketable.

BIG UPDATE: Huge bunch of dead games added

Hi everyone,

Some of you must already have heard the news that Zonitron Productions (aka Silicon Echo) was recently banned from Steam. As a result, all their games have been removed from the Steam marketplace. This means that all items from these removed games are also now non-marketable. (Do not panic though - if you have any of these games in your library, you can still play them, although your game library count will diminish because these games no longer add +1 to your library.)

In addition, a fairly big bunch of other games also recently became unmarketable - a list of them is below.

Trading "Dead Items" On Steam

Welcome to the Dead Items Trading Post!

The purpose of this group is to help Steam users acquire or get rid of Steam items that can no longer be bought or sold on the community market. These items could be trading cards, backgrounds, emoji, and so on.

The only way to obtain or offload such items right now, is through trading with other users.

Since most users would only want to trade marketable items, why not have a group dedicated to trading just non-marketable items?

One suggestion for trading would be to swap cards from one of your dead sets, for cards from someone else's different dead set, so that both of you end up completing at least one set.

Example:
You trade 2 cards from your "Mini Attack Submarine", for 2 cards from someone else's "Forsaken Uprising". The net result is that you complete your "Forsaken Uprising" set, and the other party completes his "Mini Attack Submarine" set.
The final outcome is better than both of you not completing either of your sets and having the cards just sit there doing nothing.

If you are looking for emoji or backgrounds that can no longer be bought on the Steam market, this group is also the place to find them!
