Paid mods make a comeback at Bethesda's E3 convention as "Creation Club"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRkrascT_iM

Recently, Bethesda revealed "Creation Club" As the video states, credits will be used to buy content have it appear immediately in game. According to the video, the community and outside developers will be "working hand in hand" with Bethesda games.

It would seem as if they're painting it out to be as if it's some form of highly professional thing, and not some garbage pay to mod system where anyone can put up any regular mod for any price (such as the travesty that was paid mods on the steam workshop). Though, I highly doubt that is the case. I can see this spiralling out of control like last time this was attempted. Top community developers pullign their mods off of the Nexus and putting it up for a price on the creation club, mod theft, and the in general ridiculous concept of having to pay for mods, like really!?

I don't know about you guys, but if this platform truly takes off, I'd be ready to bring the group back out of hibernation! That is only if our current members are willing to rally around us and help us bring it back to life if need be!

Once again, we want to bring the group back to life! However, a lack of interest in the community might be an issue (we've lost over 500 members during our dormancy!). However, if people are still willing to rally around this cause, we would be glad to continue the push against paid mods!

Bethesda.net workshop and popular mod author Arthmoor supporting paid mods

After a long amount of inactivity, I've decided to post an announcement on this group. I've returned to ask the followers of our group to stay a little weary. I've also returned to discuss a popular modder's stance on paid mods. As a fellow mod creator, I'm generally against the idea of Bethesda making their own workshop, seeing as how it will only divide the modding community further than it already is along with "Skyrim Special Edition" which will definitely divide the modding communtiy with a lot of popular mods not getting ported. Bethesda has said repeatedly that they plan to return paid mods to the scene.

It's becoming more and more obvious with the new workshop platforn and dividing the modding communtiy with an HD re-release that the Bethesda.net workshop is going to become their platform for such a pay to use system. Such is the sad sight to see a popular modder such as Arthmoor (created the unofficial skyrim patches, bring out your dead, and alternate start live another life). In a dicussion I had made awhile back regarding oblivion and the workshop I brought up to the forums about my suspicions of Bethesda.net to which arthmoor showed his clear support of both the platform and paid mods with the quote "Good. I welcome it" (The discussion along with Arthmoor's post can be found here: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/discussions/-1/864961721719050376/?ctp=2) It's unfortunate to see a lot of popular modders become more and more pro-paid mod. I've also seen increased amount of support for it in the discussion forums and other places. At this rate we might be seeing the return of paid mods very very soon.

It's quite the division that's going on in the modding community and it's part of Bethesda's play. The Bethesda.net workshop divides the modding community, not only that, the Bethesda.net workshop has internal division as well with console gamers and PC gamers trying to one up eachother by releasing mods for only either PC or console. Also, the release of Skyrim Special edition will only split the modding community even further with a large amount of mods not being ported over. This massive layered division in the modding community will only pave the way for paid mods to be implemented to the Bethesda.net workshop. Especially with Bethesda using their own medium and isolating it's community from the bulk of the nexus and other modding platforms.

As per usual, I encourage group members to stay aware and inform others so that we can be prepared in case paid mods return and to invite others to the group so we will be ready to spring and not have to gather up forces if paid mods ever return.
Seyes17 here.

Hello everyone.

First off, I'd like to apologize for the previous update. It was an update that slipt our hands. If you guys would still like us to make a curator page, feel free to tell any of the officers of this group.

Now to what I actually wanted to say. I know I have been inactive for quite some time and I do apologize for that. I have been dealing with the loss of my father and it has been really difficult but now I am back.

I know a lot of games have been sitting behind paywalls and all and I couldn't have reacted to that. But it's still not too late to fight for change in that. I'm not fighting for only Skyrim related issues, no I'm pushing for games in general. There are a lot of abominations that have been called to life and are multiplying like rabbits. I plan to stop that, but I can't do this alone.
For this I need all of you guys your help.

How I will work here is simple, I'll use the petition form again. I'll try to get as many people to join up with me and trust you will do the same. We can only bring changes if we work together and not spend any money on the companies that will be involved in this.

Fallout 4 and paid mods:
Yes, I am still sceptical Bethesda will keep mods free, nothing is stopping them from doing so again. Companies have been known to go back on their EULA's and change certain things for more profit, again, nothing's stopping Bethesda for doing the same. Next to that, people have massively pre-ordered and bought Fallout 4, Bethesda has their money. Which means they have even less to lose and can take the risk to attempt implementations.

Future paid mods:
Remember when I said it wasn't the end of paid mods as we know it? I'm still on the same opinion, but I see it rising again in the form of Item Malls/Stores and various other ways. At this point, I know confirmed of Rust and Killing Floor 2. I know Killing Floor 2 is a mainly multiplayer game and only sells cosmetics but what's stopping them from becoming Overkill. I'm not even going to talk about Overkill, it will take too much wordspace to explain that situation. So be wary guys, paid mods is slowly coming back and the time to stop it is now.

Microtransactions:
Well, this is not something the paid mods and Steam Workshop boycott groups target, but I Seyes17 do. I hate it and it will destroy games, I will not share too much of this on here so if you want to hear more keep your eyes on the petition. I use that for mostly unrelated topics to these groups.

I think this mostly covers of what I have to say, thank you for taking your time to read this.

I look forward to work with you guys again.

See you guys later.

Rust adds payed content to the workshop!

Not but a few weeks ago facepunch announced its latest addition to the workshop. A workshop for the popular game Rust. However, this seems to be structured in a manner similar to that of TF2's workshop in which users develop content and it's submitted to the workshop for approval. I've received many messages from concerned users wondering if this could be how payed mods enter the scene. I cannot give a direct answer on this as the rust workshop is still new and multiple things come into play as to whether this could be used to weasel paid mods back in. The approval system for workshop items on TF2 is quite strict. That is one of the problems with the paid mod workshop, being that any mod submittted could be approved for pay thus resulting in users pulling mods from the nexus and putting it up for pay as well as a flood of poorly made mediocre mods created not out of passion but solely to cash out a quick buck. I'll keep a close eye on what facepunch deems worthy to be on their workshop. For now though only time will tell if this is a good or bad thing. One of our staff members Keizaal (the creator of the 100k signature petition) put up a petition update with his take on the situation:

https://www.change.org/p/valve-remove-the-paid-content-of-the-steam-workshop/u/14237794

Keep checking back for more updates!

1 Month- Fallout 4

We have exactly 1 month from today until Fallout 4 hits the shelves. Many remain optimistic about this game, but there are some things that we should be very attentive too. It is said that they might bring paid mods for Fallout 4, not only could this be an issue for PC Gamers, it could also be an issue for Xbox Gamers as well, as you may know that they are adding mods to the Xbox One. So, I believe that we are ready to fight against this possible issue on PC, but is there anyway to stop this on the Xbox? Make some suggestions for us down below.

-Mr Slick

Remain Vigilant! Bethesda is planning to revisit paid mods after Fallout 4!

http://www.idigitaltimes.com/bethesda-plans-revisit-skyrim-paid-mods-after-fallout-4-459131

Yes I'm aware this news article is back from July. However, I'm making this post because multiple concerned members have come to me asking to post an announcement to remind people that the controversy might not be over. I've noticed some people leaving the group under the idea that it's 'served its purpose'. I'd like to dissuade others from doing this as it is likely that Bethesda may try again. This group also acts as a guardian of mods ensuring that when greedy developers think of using paid mods as a profit revenue they will look at us and remember what happened to Valve and Bethesda. So remember people stay vigilant and don't let your guard down because it might not be over just yet!

-Tornado
