I hope you are well, and that you're pursuing something fulfilling in life. This is the first announcement in a while, so it's supposed to be something good to catch your attention. Please read below.

People have consistently reached out to me over the years since the game server changed hands a couple times, and there are even people now that I meet in-game that remember the server, group, or even the other 1000 thumbs-in-pies that we had. There's even comments on the group going back years trying to remember and reconnect with people they met on the server. That's amazing, really amazing, I am thankful to the good memories that a game server had for many.

NGS was a creative outlet for me, and a place to improve. I honed my skills and pursued a successful tech career through making and maintaining the servers. There was always a hundred projects planned that I never had time for, from a voting plugin that literally allowed people to change the rules of the server every month, to a way to play on one server with multiple maps at once, check people's inventories, and even free hosted trading bots for people so that you wouldn't have to pay someone who had some technical knowledge just so you could compete with other faceless robots. Everything and anything was free, as free as I could make it.

I recently gained back control of the Steam groups. I am also trying to regain access to the old daily backups I made of the server files and database. I haven't changed my stance or philosophy on giving back to the community. NGS was a server made by the community, for the community. Everything aside, and most importantly, I want to hear from you. Presenting, the Night Map Drive :)

It is finally here boios. Presenting, the Night Map Donation Drive.

We here at NGS are working hard to bring you a new map (the night map), and you can help! Our current mapping project is going to cost $150, some of which NGS is supplying out of pocket ($150 is the price that is left over, we're doing some other stuff to reduce the cost, more info below). That harsh bastard nice person, Ryuke, has ruthlessly gone over our mapping budget with promises of sweet candy and a van ride. We want that sweet candy, we will have that sweet candy, and we'll yoink it and run him over with the very van he compiled the map in. Looted from his van-tracked trench coat will be improvements to the map like:

- Night and Day cycle versions.
- Waterfall shack roof access.
- Map credit area (includes high-tier donors to the map drive!) in the museum's now easily accessible second floor.
- Optimization of areaportals
- Merasmus boss fight fixes
- Gameplay fixes to a couple of easily exploited areas.
- Full lighting overhaul
- Secret areas

What you get:

$2: Map Boi tag in front of name + regular donor/VIP perks.
$10: All of $2 + special collectible unusual weapon. This time it will be a pan with Cloudy Moon. This tier also gives access to our test server where you can look at a preview of night map that Ryuke graced us with.
$20+: All of $10 + a special actually shiny plaque on the new map. Like, actually really shiny, "shiny" was all I could say when I saw an example on Ryuke's previous map.

For this donation drive, all items are accepted (except crates and cases). Regular weapons, stranges, anything you feel would be able to help us reach our goal is much appreciated and will be taken at 80% its Marketplace.tf price if it's not a key (we're selling on Marketplace.tf and they take that cut, we'll foot that bill if it's a key).

AntiCheat is Effectively Ineffective

Hello all!

You may have noticed that some bans were happening due to SMAC's eyetest violations due to the latest bugfix update for TF2. SMAC is a public anticheat, and the recent update caused angles of players' eyes to trigger a module that resulted in an instant ban. This problem was introduced to CS:GO 2 weeks prior, and it was unexpected that it be introduced to TF2 as well.

We have patched this on our server and disabled the faulty module, so all should be well now.

Good and bad news!

Hello! The server has been down, as I'm sure you've noticed. So some good news and some bad news. The good news is that, over the weekend, we implemented an awesome cloud-based backup system that kicks butt. The bad news is that we now have to use it.

Our server files are completely obliterated from the machine for whatever reason, so we are now restoring from our kick-ass backups. Stay tuned, this will take maximum 40-60 minutes ;)

Sorry if this sounds really official or whatever, I promise I'll try and make it not sound too sappy or sentimental or anything XD

Whoa! 2018! With the Year of the Doggo coming around, I want to renew a few promises to you. We've come a long way! By we, I do mean you, me, and your fellow players that have come together like a family these past 2 years :)

2017 has seen us break every possible record in numbers, but I'd like to think it's more about just that.

I feel 2017 has seen us see the most fun, the most friends, and the most communion in our entire history as a group and as friends. We, the players, have continued to set new standards for ourselves, our peers, and even the countless other groups we all came from to reach this point, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We've voted together on hard rulings on our server, opened our community's arms to those in need during a very tumultuous summer and fall of this year, and continued to make all the difference we could in our world. We may be small, but we pack quite the punch, I'd like to think :)

Let us hope together that 2018 will be another year that we continue to join together and make anything we dream the best it can be.

My resolution: keep our servers, services, anything and everything made by the player, for the player. Along those lines, tell me if you have something in mind that you've wanted to see happen! You may not think it, but your ideas are exactly how NGS is what it is today!

Or happy holidays I guess! It's freezing outside and all you guys are probably home for the holidays with loving family. If not you've shut yourself in and your family hasn't seen you in forever. In which case, go say hi to them. Your mother would really appreciate that :)

So now that 2018 is on the horizon, it's time to say goodbye to net neutrality 2017. This year was the year we really exploded. So many gosh darn people on our discord, trade server, and the likes. I'm not going to get too sentimental over this 'cause I already used my sentimentality card last year, but it's pretty cool to be able to see that trade server be full most of the time during the afternoon, doing things like scrounging up 144 meals for relief after Harvey, or getting our Xeon-buddy his dream unusual within a day, so on behalf of the NGS staff (Because they're probably asleep when I send this), we say thanks, and wish you a Merry Christmas!

Fraud Alert!

Scam and Fraud alert! With Smissmas just around, I'm getting a ton of messages from people that ask me to complete surveys to get them sweet, sweet steam codes. They might even have a fancy invite link I can use to get more points off of friends completing surveys. If you also received such messages, the best thing to do is to ignore it or notify the person it's a scam and not a Valve official website.

Copy-paste this to em if possible too, help increase awareness:
The best way to tell if a site is Steam's is to check the top bar for that good ol Valve Corp. green padlock when you visit the site, eg: https://steamcommunity.com/id/ZeronNTheXeon/
Fake sites will never have that certificate unless Valve's identity assets get ripped (which should never happen).

Sorry about that crash, that was my fault. Stripper Source is not playing nice. On the bright side, MOTD WORKAROUND HAS BEEN UPLOADED, MOTD IS NOW FIXED HOLY CRAP OH MY GOD THANK GOODNESS HOLY MY GOD.
