There is No News!

For the first time in the history of the Red Star Monthly, there have been no events in the past month of time worth press coverage. However, it surely can be argued that a lack of news is better than bad news, so at least we can appreciate that. New Training Base Entering Service!

As a follow-up to an announcement about plans to revise training made in last month's Red Star Monthly, a new training base has been put together and is soon to be used as the official basic training grounds of the Novoslav Armed Forces. As of now, the training grounds consist of a small base with barracks, storage, vehicles, and other equipment in a city, an off-base shooting range, and multiple areas designated for specific training activities. Once final preparations have been made, the base is expected to be officially commissioned some time early this month. New facilities are also to be added in the near future.

Recruitment Drive Starting Soon!

In related news, as soon as the revisions to the Novoslav Armed Forces' basic training program are complete, it will again be time to start searching for more people interested in joining the CSUNC. To be expected, the primary focus for this recruitment drive will be to enlist new members for Arma 3. Aside from encouraging existing members to invite their friends, there are also plans on branching out to find new people. Methods of recruitment are currently in discussion, though more information will be released at a later date.

This edition is being released one day late due to the fact that August 5th celebrations continued well into the night and very little time was found for the writing of a newspaper.

Fourth Victory Day!

Yesterday, our young Motherland celebrated her fourth anniversary of our triumphant victory in the First Novoslav Patriotic War. A ceremony similar to last year's was held in the city of Skvad at which the Kommissar gave a speech:

"Tovarischy!

This Victory Day, 5th of August, 2018, marks the fourth anniversary of the establishment of the CSUNC. Four years ago, on the night of the 5th of August, 2014, bold partisans of the now-republic of Skvad sparked the flame of revolution onto the UNC. Through the night, these partisans put forth the bayonet against fascist oppression, capturing the capital building and defending it with a system of fortifications known as the "Iron Curtain." With our party then in power and the so-called "democratic" fascists in exile, the Communist State of the United Novoslav Confederation was founded shortly before midnight. This victory was not without its counter-attacks, and battles continued into the 6th of August in our Second Patriotic War. However, despite our enemies' best efforts, nothing was able to bring down our banner of red and white.

That very banner has boldly flown high from that day. It flew high over the pathetic ruins of the first groups to challenge Novoslav power. It flew even higher over the white flags of UberHannover after they had already made their last mistake. And, as some may argue, that banner of red and white sailed highest above the little that remained of a New Germania that dared test Novoslavia's power and spirit - not only once, but twice.

Truthfully, we could be here for hours, if not days, if our only purpose here today were to reminisce over the countless times foreign powers have tested Novoslav strength only to see themselves dismissed to the many pages of our history books. And so, time will tell us the names of the many more bound to join them. But today is a day of history - a day of victory! Here's to our Motherland's victories, and to many more!

Members of the Novoslav Armed Forces in attendence cheered "Ura!" in response. This was immediately followed by a playing of the Novoslav national anthem, with field guns playing triumphantly as percussion. Ear plugs were issued beforehand, though the few that refused them did not deny that their ears were ringing by the end of it.

After the ceremony, members were dismissed to ride around the city and celebrate Victory Day. Many locations around the city and others were visited, and to say the least, there is no doubt that Novoslavia's supply of alcoholic beverages decreased that day.

Plans to Revise Basic Training

Following the CSUNC's recent transition from Garry's Mod to Arma 3, the issue of the basic training program of the Novoslav Armed Forces has been brought to attention. The Kommissar has announced that this is to be brought up for formal discussion some time soon in the Novoslav Politburo-Kremlinskaya. In addition to this, we can expect a new drive for recruiting for the Novoslav Armed Forces once the new training program is in effect.

Running With Rifles Mod Released!

To begin July's Red Star Monthly is news that the official CSUNC mod for Running With Rifles has been released! This mod, as of the writing of this article, is currently in version 1.0 and includes forces of Novoslavia as well as our Republic of Großdeutschland and multiple other groups we have fought against and alongside, such as New Germania, RFAI, and more. More equipment and factions are planned to be added in the future. The mod can be found and installed through the link below.

CSUNC Playermodels Released!

In related news, the Red Star Army playermodels made for Garry's Mod have finally been publicly released! It has been quite a while since these playermodels were made, but shortly after they were, the CSUNC made the decision to begin to move away from Garry's Mod. However, most would agree that it's better late than never, so the models have been released on the Steam Workshop. They can also be installed from the link below.

Welcome to Novoslavia Announced!

Following an apparent trend in this month's paper, we would like to announce Welcome to Novoslavia, a project being worked on by Efreitor Action of the RSA. Welcome to Novoslavia is a work-in-progress mod for the free beta version of the game Papers, Please, putting the player in the place of a Novoslav border inspector in the city of Wayraz. Kommissar Day

To kick off the June edition of the Red Star Monthly, we will be taking a look at the holiday of Kommissar Day and what it means to Novoslavia. Kommissar Day, designated as the 6th day of June, marks the birthday of Kommissar Sobieski. This day, rather than celebrating the Kommissar himself, is set aside to commend many accomplishments spanning the entire history of Novoslavia, from the battles of the Novoslav Patriotic Wars to the matters of the present day and all achievements, both big and small, along the way.

While equality and celebration of the average proletariat are prominent in Novoslavia, it is important to recognize the eminent leaders who brought our Motherland to where it is today!

Diplomacy With ABMC

Starting late last month, Kommissar Sobieski has been in constant contact with leaders and members of ABMC alike. Although Novoslav and ABMC forces found themselves on opposing sides of the battlefield in the past, it has now become quite clear that CSUNC and ABMC have much more in common than we may have previously thought. Although the CSUNC has effectively withdrawn from Garry's Mod, we still see reason in maintaining friendly relations with ABMC wherever possible, especially because of our common history. Despite the fact that this course of events is nothing more than an endeavor for positive relations, news will be published should anything more come out of it.

Victory in Europe Day

We'd like to start off May's Red Star Monthly with news concerning this upcoming holiday. Victory in Europe Day is celebrated on the 9th of May annually in commemoration of the Nazi surrender to the USSR. Here in the CSUNC, we'll be celebrating that day once again in our usual manner. At around 5:00 PM CST on the 9th, everyone is invited to gather to watch the Russian military's Victory Day parade. Afterwards, all in attendance will be encouraged to stay and spend some time with some sort of informal, unscheduled activity depending on what they would like to do.

Planning in Advance for Victory Days

On the topic of Victory Day celebrations, those in the Novoslav Kremlin have started discussing a proper celebration for this year's Victory Days. Last year, in 2017, we celebrated with a short formal ceremony and exhibit in Garry's Mod. However, due to our recent switch from Garry's Mod to Arma 3, it's obvious that we will have to do things differently this time around.

So far, it seems that the nature of the ceremony held last year will be at least somewhat applicable in Arma 3, but there are still many aspects to be discussed and later finalized. Luckily, such discussions have started quite some time in advance, so those responsible for planning the event will have plenty of time to prepare.

General Arma 3 News

We would also like to touch upon some general advancements in Arma 3 that should be brought up. Lately, the scenarios made for our weekly events have been gradually growing in complexity and detail. In the near future, we hope to introduce more advanced pre-built missions with more immersive features.

While we are in the process of introducing the ace mod to our missions, soon we hope to experiment with ACRE. ACRE is a mod that uses Teamspeak to implement realistic direct voice chat and radios into Arma 3. In coordination with ace, a new factor of realism is introduced to the game. For example, players who are dead or unconscious will be completely incapable of communicating directly with the rest of their team. We plan on first testing ACRE outside of our weekly events to get a feel for how it works. Stay tuned for more information on this topic.

CSA38 Event(s)

To start off this rather small edition is some word on what the upcoming events for Arma 3 will hold. We've made the decision to begin with CSA38, a high-quality and detailed alternate-history-based mod. The scenario is set in the situation that Czechoslovakia resisted German demands during the 1930s and features an armed Czechoslovak-German conflict in 1938. These events are anticipated to be a unique change of pace, not only because of the drastic change in weapons and equipment, but also because of the style of operations we will be playing. Rather than simple patrol and attack objectives, we will be focusing on holding the defensive line on Czechoslovakia's northern border with an extensive system of bunkers and trenches.

In addition, the creator of CSA38 has recently released an early version of Wrzesień 39, which focuses on the real-life defense of Poland in September 1939. This mod, as of now, features Polish infantry and tanks, but we will likely wait for more content to be released until we hold an event with it.

Possibility of Future Collaboration

There has been some talk of the possiblity of the CSUNC working with small Arma units for collaborative events in the future. While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, such possiblities would include primarily joint operations, though PvP is also within the realm of chance. Such events would probably take place on a smaller scale, even if more players would be present. As if it has not been made clear enough, all of this talk is only just that, and no solid decisions have yet been made.

Upcoming Uniforms for Arma 3

We begin with an announcement that in the near future, the CSUNC will be working on custom uniforms and equipment for Arma 3! These uniforms will be built off of Soviet M69 field uniforms in the same fashion as our current models with Garry's Mod.

While Basher, the owner of the Soviet Army Rearmed mods for Arma 3, has given us permission in advance to modify his models, he would rather we wait until a new and improved version of these models has been released. As of now, his mod includes VDV (Airborne) and VMF (Marines) versions of the uniforms, but motorized infantry is planned for the future. Further details will be released on this project as it develops.

Discussion on Movie/Game Nights
A new topic has found its way into the discussion of Novoslavia's ranks lately. This is the talk of the CSUNC hosting regular events in which members would be invited to come along and spend time together watching movies or playing games which the CSUNC isn't formally active in.

While there is essentially no opposition to this idea, the matters to be discussed are down to when time is to be made for these events and how they are to be held. As of now, these events are being considered to take place once monthly. Lastly, as with any topic of this sort, all are encouraged to share with members of Stavka any ideas they may have for movies to watch or games to play.

RallyNovo Car Hits the Streets!
We'd like to wrap up this edition of the Red Star Monthly with news of a fun little side project, although not an official one tied to CSUNC. In the spirit of rallying being the most popular motorsport for our nation, a team RallyNovo car has been prepared to represent Novoslavia on the tracks. This car is a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V with a custom livery and tuned for rallying on mixed terrain.

We often enjoy taking the opportunity to showcase side projects done in Novoslavia entirely for fun in contrast to the typical news and announcements usually regarding our armed forces.
